Ebook collections available at the Brown University Library

Brown University Libraries have an extensive collection of ebooks in a variety of disciplines. This guide will assist you in searching for, accessing, and downloading digital content.

Ebooks for course reserves

The library has been placing ebooks on reserve since the spring 2016 semester. When a faculty member places a equest for a book, library staff will search to see if an electronic version is available.

Faculty may submit course reserves ebook requests using our Course Reserves  system. You can add your e-reserves link to your course in Canvas by following the instructions at http://brown.edu/go/canvas-ereserves.

Downloading or printing a limited portion of the book is permissible for most titles but will vary by publisher.

Some ebooks allow one single-user access, while others allow multi-user access. Ebooks with multi-user licensesare ordered when available.

If you or your students are having trouble accessing a specific ebook through Course Reserves, please email rock-reserves@brown.edu or eresources@brown.edu

Reserves for students

Students can access all electronic resources for their course by using the student login in our Course Reserves (Course Reserves) system or in Canvas.

We try to purchase ebooks that allow unlimited simultaneous user access, but some ebooks can only be downloaded by two users at a time. There is usually always a copy of the ebook available that can be read in your browser.

If an ebook is only available with a single-user license, we will purchase two (2) copies of the ebook and also place a print copy of the item on reserve.

If possible, do your readings a least a few days before the reading is due. If you receive a message that an ebook is currently in use, please try again later.

If you have any questions or need assistance with our ebook collection, please contact rock-reserves@brown.edu or eresources@brown.edu
