Pembroke Center Archives

The Pembroke Center Archives identifies, collects, and processes collections related to our mission: advancing the capacity for research and teaching on women, gender, and feminist scholarship in the University library system.

Requesting Materials

Researchers are welcome to visit the Special Collections Reading Room at Brown University's John Hay Library to use our collections in person.

First, review the finding aid for the collection and determine which boxes you'd like to see.

Then, register as a Brown University researcher in Aeon.

Next, request the boxes you'd like to see through the library catalog, Bruknow

  • Scroll down to "Location items" then click "Reading Room Request" next to the box you'd like to see (you can click "show more items" under the last box to reveal additional boxes).
  • Note that you only have to submit requests at the box level. For example, if you want to look at box 3, folders 4, 5, and 6, you only have to submit a request for box 3. Follow those steps for every box you'd like to see during your visit.
  • When completing the form, be sure to schedule your reading room appointment before clicking submit.

This LibGuide has tips and tutorials to help you plan your visit and request materials.

If you’re not sure what you need, or you would like help with the registration and request process, please contact pembroke_archives@brown.edu.

Funding Opportunities

Researchers are invited to apply for a grant through the New England Regional Fellowship Consortium (NERFC). Awards are open to U.S. citizens and foreign nationals who hold the necessary U.S. government documents. Grants are designed to encourage projects that draw on the resources of several participating institutions, including the Pembroke Center Archives and Brown University Library.
