All of Us Researcher Workbench at Brown

About All of Us Data

Data Access Tiers

All of Us research data is divided into three tiers.

  • The Public Tier contains aggregated data with removed identifiers. The data is accessible through the Data Browser, a point and click tool that builds dynamic graphical representations of All of Us data.
  • The Registered Tier contains individual level data, including:
    • Electronic Health Record (EHR) data
    • Wearable device (e.g. FitBit) data
    • Survey data
    • Physical measurements
  • The Controlled Tier contains the same information as the Registered Tier, with the addition of:
    • Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) data
    • Genotyping arrays
    • Previously suppressed EHR and survey demographic data
    • Unshifted dates of events

Data in the Registered and Controlled tiers are accessed through the Researcher Workbench, a cloud based application with point and click tools to build participant cohorts and datasets, as well as built in Jupyter notebooks to analyze data. Users can collaborate with other authenticated Researcher Workbench users.

Access to the Researcher Workbench requires affiliation with an institution with an existing Data Use and Registration Agreement (DURA). Brown currently has a DURA for the Registered and Controlled tiers.
