Registering for a number ensures your publications are linked to you, and only you, even if there are other researchers with the same name. Some publishers and require an ORCiD number when accepting manuscripts for publication.

Why connect your ORCiD to Brown? This allows Brown to integrate authenticated ORCID identifiers into grant applications and other processes, and
link ORCID identifiers with Brown IDs and registry systems. ORCID identifiers can facilitate the gathering of publication, grant, and other data for use in Reseachers@Brown profiles.
