Google Scholar is a free citation index that covers a wider breadth of material (for instance, conference abstracts and reports) in comparison to other paid databases like Web of Science and Scopus, which typically limit to peer reviewed journal articles. Because of this, many see slightly higher citation metrics due to the wider pool of indexed articles and scholarly material.
