Brown users can access datasets that the library has purchased, but that are not hosted online

Introduction

The Brown University Library subscribes to many database platforms that contain datasets. This page provides details about several datasets that we own that are NOT hosted online, with a short form for requesting access to them. These datasets can be used by current members of Brown University for non-commercial research and educational purposes

License and Use Restrictions

These datasets are copyrighted and licensed to Brown University for academic, non-commercial research purposes only. Access is restricted to current members of Brown University. You may not republish or redistribute the data files in whole or part to anyone outside your immediate research team. You must cite the source in your work if you use this data for your research. The creation of derivatives for non-commercial research purposes, such as summary tables, charts, and maps, is acceptable with attribution.

These datasets were acquired from private sources. Brown University disclaims any liability for errors, inaccuracies, or omissions that may be contained therein or for any damages that may arise from the foregoing. Users should independently verify the accuracy and fitness of the data for their purposes.

Dataset documentation and code books are accessible here with Brown University email accounts. Use the Request Form (below) to request access to datasets.

Request a Dataset

Current members of Brown University with a valid brown.edu email address can request access to copies of datasets listed on this page for research purposes, including: on-going academic research, dissertations, theses, academic or professional papers, and course projects.

Requests will be processed within 5 business days during the fall and spring semesters. Processing time may take longer in winter and summer. If access is granted, you will have 7 days to download the requested data from a Google Drive folder.
