Teaching Support

The library is here to help as you prepare to teach, design or re-design courses, and explore information and materials to engage your students in the research process.

Response to COVID19

We are providing virtual services, including research consultations, online reserves requests, and workshops. Subject librarians can be reached by email and on chat, which is staffed Monday - Friday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Visit the Library's blog for updates on COVID-19.

Reserves Requests - COVID 19 Update

The Library is ready to receive your requests for course material and reserves. Please send an email to with your request, or, if you prefer, in OCRA. We are prepared to respond to requests rapidly to support adjustments made in moving your course online.

General Course Reserves information found in OCRA.

Library Instruction

Subject Librarians are available to partner with you to design and deliver instruction and assignment support about the research process.

Asynchronous course support looks like:

  • The guide to library research for general information literacy (research skills) information for students
  • Worksheets, subject guides, recorded videos, and slides that can be made available on the library website or embeded in Canvas
  • Emailed questions and research help

Synchronous course support looks like:

  • Chat directly with a subject librarian
  • Video or Audio Meetings with subject librarians for individuals or groups

Canvas LTI

The LibApps External Tool in Canvas [How to add this] allows an instructor to provide access to library content, instruction, and consultation directly in Canvas. You can bring in any information you see on an existing subject guide or we can create a custom page for your course using this platform.

The type of information that you might bring in with the LTI is:

  • Top databases and other resources students should access for assignments
  • Instruction for how to use and search online resources
  • Information on citation and plagiarism
  • Guides to research specifically created for your course

The LTI is a good option that we recommend to simplify access to library resources by eliminating extra steps for students.

The video below shows you how to add the Research Help guide for undergraduate students to your course. Please reach out to if you would like to learn more about this option.
