This tutorial provides an overview of publicly accessible wildlife observation and tracking data. It summarizes major sources for accessing data, search strategies for finding data on the internet and in library research databases, and common data processing tasks in QGIS and ArcGIS Pro. Wildlife data is often packaged either in CSV files as observations with coordinates that can be plotted as points and processed to form lines representing paths, or in shapefiles that store point and line geometry that can be readily viewed in GIS.
