Sociology

This guide offers starting points for your research. All e-resources are available to you online when you're signed in to Brown's network.

Get started with sociology research

Welcome! This guide will help you ask, investigate, and answer research questions in sociology. We'll also connect you with key resources at the library + where to ask questions.

We have resources to support you along the research process, including:

  1. Plan your research project: literature review and background resources
  2. Find and cite key scholarly sources, including:
    • Peer-reviewed articles
    • Books and e-books
  3. Find social science data (if applicable): datasets, databases/platforms, API, text data
  4. Find and cite additional non-scholarly sources, including news, grey literature & think tank sources, NGO sources
  5. Analyze your work
  6. Write, cite, and share your work
