Middle East Studies

Scholarly and research related resources for the region stretching from North Africa to Iran

About this guide

This guide provides various scholarly resources for the study of the Middle East. It's scope, geographically, includes those areas of North Africa and Southwest Asia that are dominated by the languages of Arabic, Turkish and Persian (Farsi). Temporally, this guide treats this region from the time of the Arab/Muslim conquests of the mid-7th century CE to the present. It aims to cover resources available at Brown that are both from the region and about the region within these spatial and temporal frames. Emphasis has been given to those subjects and materials which are particularly represented by the interests and strengths of the university and its community. A separate guide treats the field of Islamic Studies.
